| SMP Data Communications formerly Superior Modular Products, has been proudly designing and manufacturing quality innovative connectivity components for over 15 years in Western North Carolina. During those 15 years, SMP has continuously strived to provide engineering excellence and consistent performance to its customers,through its products and its pledge to exceptional customer service. From the beginning, SMP was contrived from founding members that believed in designing reliable and competitive products that surpassed industry standards. Through this commitment, a long list of patented technology and intellectual property emerged from SMP's Research & Development initiatives. Included in these patents are the low cross-talk, electrical connector system (US Pat. 5,299,956), which revolutionized the high-speed connector industry and is still the basis for today's higher frequency connectivity development. Further efforts toward continuous product improvement, include development of the impedance matched, reduced cross-talk, electrical connector system. Although, its importance was not fully recognized at first, impedance matching is now recognized as one of the most critical needs in the industry. With the emergence of Gigabit Ethernet, issues of return loss and impedance have been propelled to the forefront of connector design. On top of impedance matching, SMP also patented a modular plug design suitable for Category 6 applications which allows manufacturers to simultaneously increase yields and lower the costs of Category 6 compliant patch cords. With ever-changing industry standards and increasingly stringent speculation into testing and guaranteed performance, SMP has been recognized for many of its contributions on component testing at high frequencies. As increasing bandwidth requirements in connectivity drove testing beyond the capabilities of existing methods, the SMP "Pyramid Adapter" was written into the TIA/EIA-568-B.2-1 Category 6 standard and is accepted world wide as the preferred method for component level testing. Today, SMP continues to drive standards for emerging technology such as 10Gbps over copper cabling, Category 6a cabling standards, Extended Power over Ethernet and testing criteria that creates a baseline for the industry to follow.
